Last night marked the fifth in a series of conversations organized in partnership with CUE Art Foundation. Titled "Living Dualities", this talk centered around the changing roles and perceptions of artists who work in the arts. Led by Tova Carlin in conversation with Man Bartlett, Rob Hult, Marisa Jahn, Scott Kiernan, Sophia Peer, Summer Pierre,Ted Riederer, Amber Hawk-Swanson, it addressed how and why these artists chose the jobs they have, how it feeds into their practice, ways they cope with overextension, and perceptions of success. Unlike some of the past conversations that focused on problem solving ways to improve the system, the focus last night was more about the wisdom that each individual could share based on his/ her own experience.
On Saturday, November 13, EFA Project Space hosted an event organized by OurGoods.org, a creative skill sharing website. The afternoon consisted of an "idea party" led by curator Erin Sickler. Artists/ Makers were asked to share what they do, and describe obstacle that they currently face in fully realizing a project. Projects ranged from art performance to mapping to documentary to television production to event producing to fabricating kinetic sculpture. Explanations were followed by a brain storming session involving the entire group, where strategic suggestions were made, resources shared, etc. EFA is a sponsor of OurGoods, and several more of these events will be hosted by its other sponsors over the next few months. Click here for more details on the event.
Last week marked the very first meeting of EFA Project Space's Advisory Committee! This group is made up of folks who have provided much expertise to the Project Space throughout its development, and now we have made them official advisors. The purpose of doing this is to a) credit these individuals for the ongoing role they play in advancing our program and b) provide an opportunity to bring these diverse minds together for an ultimate brainstorming session! And what a great session it was. This is one clever, experienced group, and we are ever grateful to have them on board.
