Special Internship Opportunity: "To Have and to Owe"

To Have and to Owe/ Special Project Intern

EFA Project Space seeks applicants for a Special Project Internship position connected to To Have and to Owe, a dynamic, integrative cultural event series taking place in the fall of 2012.

About To Have and to Owe

From September 21–October 27, 2012, EFA Project Space in New York City will present To Have and To Owe, a research platform and event series for thinking about debt. Focused on the social relations that debt engenders, To Have and To Owe has invited a range of artists and theorists to offer lectures, workshops, reading groups, performances, screenings, and more, exploring the subject of debt and opening up a space in which its aesthetic and social dimensions may be considered as part of its economic register.

Through live events, cultural production, and online publication, To Have and to Owe seeks to widen discussion on topics including: debt as discipline, money as social medium, re-distributions of wealth, banking crises, debt peonage, credit worthiness, collectivizing debt, philanthropy as debt in reverse, and debtor strikes, among numerous other subjects.

Over the five weeks EFA Project Space will function as a meeting site and accumulative bulletin board where participants and audience members are welcome to post and distribute diverse visual and textual materials around the subject of debt.

To Have and to Owe Special Project Intern

Ideal candidates for the position should be interested in aspects of economy, social justice and art. Interest in curating is a plus, as candidates may have the opportunity to work closely with the organizer of the project who can serve as a mentor, working collaboratively with the intern. To Have and to Owe Special Project Intern will receive a stipend for participating in this project.

Responsibilities would include researching textual and visual materials on the subject of debt, assisting with installation, commitment to attend several events between September 21-October 27, assisting with photo and video documentation, overseeing hospitality including greeting participants and audience members, distributing information, attending to food and drink and helping to create an overall welcoming environment for ideas and exchange. *If the intern is interested in developing their own event as part of the project series they would be welcome to do so.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter and resumé to Michelle Levy, Director, EFA Project Space Program, at michelle@efanyc.org
