Resident Spotlight 2012: Sarah Walko

Sarah Walko is a multimedia sculptor/installation/film artist and writer. She is currently the Executive Director of Triangle Arts Association.
Now that the 2012 Residents have settled in to their awesome communal studio, we wanted to see if we could get a bit more of a sense of their studio practices, working habits, and their personalities. So, we asked each of them to answer a series of questions ranging from their artistic fantasies to their favorite foods. Here's what Sarah told us...
PS: What are you working on now?
SW: Sculpture, installation, writing and film.
PS: What is your experience so far?
SW: I love being in the space. its very peaceful and helps me concentrate, it's like an incubator. I like seeing everyone's projects move along and seeing new progress everyday, etc. It's forcing me to ask a lot of questions about why I work how I do and helping me to hone in on what directions I think I want to go in - in the future.
PS: Early morning bird or night owl?
SW: A bit of both.
PS: Tips on staying focused?
SW: checklists, decision making
PS: What is your favorite food? Savory or sweet?
SW: Any kind of fish. Savory.
PS: Preferred mode of transportation: taxi, bike, subway, foot?
SW: I like all modes but find walking is a good way to work through ideas.
PS: If you couldn’t work in the arts/be an artist, what kind of work would you do?
SW: Political activist, journalism, anthropology
PS: What are your creative inspirations?
SW: Story telling, theatre, listening to authors speak about their work
PS: If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
SW: Author/anthropologist Wade Davis
PS: If you could have lived as an artist in any time period, when would that be?
SW: Vienna, early 1900's - 1920's
