Take to the Water! A Discussion with Artist-Nomads on the Aquatic Open Field

Join us on Thursday, June 16th for Take to the Water! an evening of presentations and conversation focusing on three significant creative movements that involve the rejection of land-based conventions in order to establish platforms for new possibilities on the ubiquitous waterways. Panelists include Constance Hockaday, who will share stories of her work with the Floating Neutrinos, Swoon, who will talk about her activities with Miss Rockaday Armada and the sea-borne Swimming Cities collective, and Mary Mattingly who will describe the vision and realization of the Waterpod project. Following the presentations, Sea Worthy curatorial team member Dylan Gauthier will lead a discussion and talk-back with the artists.

Sea Worthy is Open!

On Friday, June 10th EFA Project Space, Flux Factory and The Gowanus Studio Space celebrated the opening of Sea Worthy: An Exhibition.  The opening reception was extremely successful, featuring art in the form of boat models and drawings to water-inspired videos and sound installations, all from 25 locally and internationally based artists.  Thank you to everyone who came out to support Sea Worthy: An Exhibition and kick off the summer of 2011's events organized in collaboration with Flux Factory and The Gowanus Studio Space.  Visit Sea Worthy's website for updates on events and excursions.

Jason Gandy's Atixipdio was an interactive highlight for the night's crowds with Swimming Citie's collage of drawings, photographs and a video projection close by.

Michael Arcega's Lexical borrowing... provides an opportunity to contemplate intercultural navigation amongst the company of Amze Emmons's Royal Ark plans, Reid Stowe's GPS chart mounted on a sail and Duke Riley's interwoven imagery of maritime history and New York City waterways.

Join Us for a Reception and Public Viewing!

The EFA Project Space will be open for a reception and public viewing of the ideas, discussions, performances, and artwork produced during the two week long experimental student workshop, Acting the Words is Enacting the World - currently taking place in the space.  Artists Huong Ngo and Hong-An Truong, along with their 10 NYC students will host a reception of their work on Thursday, May 26, 6 - 8pm.  The gallery will be open for regular hours (12 - 6pm) on Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28 for a public viewing of the work.

Artist-led Experimental Workshop for NYC Students

The gallery is reserved for a two week long workshop in radical education beginning on Tuesday, May 17th.  Artists Huong Ngo and Hong-An Truong facilitate Acting the Words is Enacting the World, a workshop which will mobilize Brazilian popular education activist Augusto Boal’s techniques of Theater of the Oppressed to prompt students to engage with the economy in a series of intensive workshops, discussions and performances. EFA Project Space will hold a reception of the students' and artists' collaborative work on Thursday, May 26th.  The gallery will be open for two days of public viewing to follow.  For more information please click here.
