About RBPMW

Our Mission

Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop (RBPMW) is a co-operative printmaking workspace that provides professional-quality printmaking facilities to artists and printmakers of every skill level. We are committed to inspiring and fostering a racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse artistic community dedicated to the making of fine art prints in an environment that embraces technical and aesthetic exploration, innovation and collaboration.

We seek to improve the overall quality of fine art printmaking by providing low cost, unfettered access to printers, equipment, and education.  It is our belief that focusing on the art first, that happens to be a print, allows for more innovative printmaking and leads to greater exchange of ideas and cultures between members. Robert Blackburn created a welcoming and supportive creative environment with a spirit of openness that serves as the backbone of the workshop today.

Our Programs

We focus all of our efforts at RBPMW around helping artists better their creative and technical practice.  We offer classes taught by master printers, demonstrations from Guest Master Printmakers, lectures from a wide array of talented artists and fellowships to work in the studio.  Our Printers without presses program provides access to the facility for printers in need a studio to collaborate and edition projects.  Our work exchange program provides opportunities to volunteer in exchange for studio time.  RBPMW’s publishing program is an invitational opportunity for artists to collaborate with staff printers on fine art print projects for the purpose of expanding the number of voices in the art market as a whole and to raising funds to keep studio use fees low for members.  RBPMW can also be contracted to work in collaboration with an artist for publishers, galleries, individual artists and foundations.
