EFA Project Space is thankful for the many inspiring individuals we have had the chance to work with. Here is what some of them have to say about us:

“New York City needs more spaces like the EFA project space.  EFA offers an exhibition program that is full of imagination, that does not cater to the whims and turns of the art market, that inserts meaningful and captivating threads of conversation in the city's art scene. EFA covers the range of conceptual and innovative practices, from the poetic to the humorous and the performative, always taking a crucial critical perspective, and ensuring the support of emerging artists in the process. It is a model for the next generation of alternative spaces in New York.”

- Pablo Helguera, artist

“I curated a show at the Elizabeth Foundation Gallery in 2007 and have kept an eye on it since it evolved to EFA Project Space, becoming a supporter and a friend of the organization. In the past few years I (as many others) witnessed the Project Space's further development into a haven for timely, well thought, politically and intellectually challenging projects. The programming is brimming with ideas and inspiring in any possible way, without ever resorting to insiders-only or inaccessible approaches and attitudes. The liveliness and constant eclecticism of the projects, always enriched by discussion-stimulating public events, are among the gallery's biggest strengths.”

- Marco Antonini, curator

"EFA Project Space is unique among NYC's non-profit exhibitions spaces.  It foregrounds experimentation, collaboration, true dialogue, and a strong sense of community among interdisciplinary artists, curators, and arts workers throughout the city and beyond."

- Matthew Deleget, artist

"As an artist with a process-based social practice that doesn't fit comfortably into most gallery settings, I was thrilled to discover EFA Project Space and its Artist Organizer series. Last spring, as part of the series, I organized an experimentally cast production that used the idea of an orphan-themed musical as its point of departure. The entire creative process was videotaped and put on display as a six-week exhibition. The support, enthusiasm, and engagement of the program staff throughout the project was invaluable. They helped me work through some serious challenges early on and did an excellent job of promoting and supporting the project from beginning to end. I was so relieved to find an art space adventurous enough to take on such an unusual project, but the resources and support the program offered allowed me to be more ambitious and precise than I ever imagined."

- Kara Hearn, artist

"EFA Project Space is a vital space for emerging and mid-career artists from New York and beyond to experiment with the creative process and probe their place in the world. Few other organizations in NYC have such spirited programming."

- Chen Tamir, curator

"I really love that in the span of one year's programming, EFA Project Space can host the start to finish production of an original musical, a lively forum for discourse around debate around debt, and also a more quiet, meticulously curated exhibition bringing the space's dedicated audience back to considering the object. To me, this fresh approach keeps the space alive and challenging. Exhibitions don't just open and then sit there silent for weeks on end. The door remains open for artists and organizers to try out new formulas, take risks, and have conversations that many other spaces might not have the flexibility (or the vision, honestly) to take a chance on."

- Sally Szwed, curator

“EFA Project Space has always been a place where I feel welcomed and supported to explore a wide range of ideas as a visitor and as an exhibitor.  So many of my friends are always involved there, it's like a community center for conceptually driven, caring, socially minded art people.”

- Cassie Thornton, artist
