Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop (RBPMW) is pleased to announce the opening of Lithography: Here & Now, an exhibition of lithographs printed at RBPMW in the last five years.

Robert Blackburn started his Printmaking Workshop (PMW) with one lithography press. From the 1950s onward Blackburn championed this process, introducing emerging NYC artists to the process at PMW and collaborating with established artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Helen Frankenthaler and Robert Motherwell at Universal Limited Art Editions where he was Master Printer from 1957 to 1963.

From the start RBPMW has shared Blackburn's belief in lithography, providing materials, facilities and instruction for artists interested in learning this process, collaborating with established artists to produce innovative lithographs published by RBPMW, and creating opportunities for independent professional printers trained in lithography.

Lithography: Here & Now is part of our 2013: Focus on lithography - a year long series of events centered around this process. The works on view in this exhibition are a telling portrait of contemporary lithography and a printmaking workshop founded to continue the work of a Master Lithographer.
